For whatever reason, I think of Nelson Mandela.
Bright, fresh, all red fruit and spice, not overly complex, sweet red fruits and a sappy edge, light fine tannin, and a juicy red-fruited finish of solid length. It’s a good wine. Yarra Pinot 101, you could say.

A Mandala specialty, this Pinot Noir combines an intense burst of ripe and dried red fruits with the usual velvety-soft tannins typical of the grape. Bright, young, and a brilliant pure red in the glass, you could match this with just about anything.
Slightly “green”, in true Yarra Valley style, with cut grass and
rockmelon rind behind all that red fruit.
A bright and complex aromatic profile displaying notes of pomegranate, dried strawberry and star anise with hints of blue fruit, crushed violet, fresh tobacco and truffle. A finely structured palate offers textural generosity with notes of red currant and dark cherry integrating well with supportive oak spice. Refreshing natural acidity gives the wine drive and line leading into a long and persistent finish.
Pinot Noir is a red wine grape variety associated with the Burgundy region in France. The name derives from the French words for "pine" and "black", which reference the similarity between the clusters of Pinot Noir grapes and the shape of pine cones! The Yarra Valley is one of the best regions in the world for producing highly-sensitive Pinot Noir, which is one of the few exceptional wines to reflect the specific land and climatic conditions into the taste of the wine. Pinot Noir is Charles' first love, leading him to the Yarra Valley back in 1999, where he developed the Yarra Junction vineyard to plant Burgundian clones for premium Pinot Noir production.
Established in 1999 with the planting of a tiny plot of Pinot Noir, Mandala came into being properly in 2007 with the purchase of an additional vineyard and the construction of a winery in Dixon’s Creek.
