Our Notes
An honest, bright and fruit-forward Shiraz in a classic McLaren Vale style, the “Native Goose” is far more approachable than its namesake bird. Red fruit dominates, both fresh and jammy notes, and a charred medium-rare steak comes to mind as a perfect partner.
From The Winemaker
Powerful intensity of forest berries, such as blueberries and blackberries intertwined with spice overtones of anise and cloves, mixing well with the ripe lift of Satsuma plums and chocolate, all enhanced by well-integrated oak freshness.
Medium-bodied but textured, showing finesse and excellent balance of juicy layers of blackberry, spice, plum and dustings of cocoa. These flavours persist through to a very long lasting velvety smooth finish capped by structured, soft tannins and harmonious oak.
About the Winery
Named for Cape Barren Island (home of the implacably aggressive Cape Barren goose with its highlighter-pen nose, shown on the winery's labels) but based in McLaren Vale. Wines sourced from the operation's old old-growth vines or respected contacts in the Adelaide Hills and winemaking overseen by Rob Dundon, formerly of Hardy Wines, a long-time McLaren Vale fanatic who became owner and head winemaker in 2009.
