Our Notes
Australia and Austria have often suffered mix-ups in international contexts, but we've been slow to adopt Austria's signature grape. Nick Spencer takes the plunge here, sourcing grapes from the family-owned Coppabella vineyard in cool mountainous Tumbarumba. The end result is a little "bigger" than the Rieslings that Grü-Vs are often compared to, with pleasant signature tastes of white pepper and grapefruit.
From the Winemaker
Gruner Veltliner is a white grape variety native to Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Czech Republic. In Australia Gruner is planted exclusively in cooler regions such as the Tumbarumba, The Adelaide Hills and Tasmania. Gruner is often compared to other varieties such Riesling with slightly more volume, texture and more approachable acidity.
The 2022 Gruner Veltliner displays aromas of grapefuit, stone fruits, citrus and subtle spice. The palate is vibrant and juicy with lovely salivating acidity and texture.
