Aroma & Palate | Grassy and textured, with preserved lemon |
Varietal | Semillon, Marsanne, Rousanne, Riesling |
Style | Easygoing luxury |
From ‘Victorian Highlands’ with semillon as the focus, but some other white varieties in the mix. Produced by Matt Harrop (Shadowfax).
Smells like semillon – lemon, lemon curd, dried herbs, cut grass, faint saline characters – and feels fresh and vibrant in the glass. Clean and clear in the palate, zippy with citrussy tang. Lean, racy, refreshing, touch of chalkiness in texture. Lots of merit here. Chill and drink in sun.
90/100 - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
From Semillon with a little help from Rousanne, Marsanne and Riesling grapes for some zippy acidity, this Silent Way Semillon “& Friends” blend is clean, focused and vibrant, showing preserved lemon, orange peel, and a good amount of the freshly mown lawn notes for which Semillon is famous.
Naturally fermented with minimal intervention, but there’s no farmhouse funk here, just a hint of an intriguing accent.
Named for the Miles Davis album that "went electric", winemaking couple Matt Harrop and Tamara Grischy's Silent Way project similarly features some playful but virtuosic boundary-pushing from a handpicked team of experts who refuse to just do the usual. Small quantities of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a signature Semillon blend are on offer, all grown and vinified with an emphasis on authentic expression of the grapes and the region.
